Avoid the crowds following a natural and easy path in the forest connecting two of Kyoto’s major attraction
An easy hike for everyone starting from Yasaka shrine. After entering the shrine precint we will first walk through Maruyama park, famous for its amazing weeping cherry blossom tree set and the foot of a picture perfect pond, and will then continue to Chion-in temple. We will approach the temple complex through the impressive Sanmon Gate and then check out Japan’s biggest temple bell. We will enter the forest just behind the bell and walk gently uphill through the forest until we will reach Shogunzuka Seiryuden Hall and garden. From its massive wooden terrace you will have a magnificent 360 view of Kyoto and its surroundings. After visiting the small but impressive garden we will start our descent following again a natural forest path that will lead us to a ‘secret’ back entrance of Kiyomizu temple, possibly the most famous temple in the city. After a stroll in the temple gardens we will descend through the historical streets of Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka.
